Membership and Initiatives :
ACAD
(Asbestos Control & Abatement Division) represents specialists in
asbestos removal. It is dedicated to ensuring its members work to the
exacting standards required by legislation in the Asbestos Industry by
providing first class training and free advice and by also representing
its members’ interests within organisations such as HSE’s Asbestos
Liaison Group (ALG), British Standards Institute (BSI) and the Asbestos
Building Inspectors Certification Scheme (ABICS).
BIFM
(British Institute of Facilities Management) is the UK’s lead institute
representing the interests of those who practice facilities management
and those who work in organisations supplying FM related goods or
services.
BPEC
The BPEC Solar hot water course has been developed in conjunction with the Solar Trade Association (STA), the UK trade association for solar water heating systems.
BSRIA
(Building Services Research and Information Association, UK) member, which is a not-for-profit consultancy, test and research organisation, providing specialist services in construction and building services.
CHAS
(Contractor Health and Safety assessment scheme) The scheme is
available for use by any public and private sector organizations to use
when shortlisting contractors, suppliers and consultants (companies)
who apply to work for them. It provides information about the health
and safety part of their application.
Constructionline is the UK's register of pre-qualified local and national construction and construction-related suppliers.
CORGI
(Confederation for the Registration of Gas Installers) is the body
charged by the Health and Safety Executive (HSE) to maintain a register
of competent gas installers in Great Britain, Northern Ireland and the
Isle of Man. It is a legal requirement for any business carrying out
gas related work to be registered with CORGI.
CSCS (Construction Skills Certification Scheme) was set up to help the construction industry to improve quality and reduce accidents.
ECA
(Electrical Contractors' Association) is the UK's largest and leading
trade association representing electrical, electronic, installation
engineering and building services companies.
EXOR is the only independent accreditation body providing Supplier and Contractor Accreditation Services for Public Sector Authorities as well as Central Government and other public organisations.
HVCA
(Heating and Ventilating Contractors' Association) represents the
interests of firms active in the design, installation, commissioning
and maintenance of heating, ventilating, air conditioning and
refrigeration (hvacr) products and equipment.
IIP (Investor in People) is a business improvement tool designed to advance an organisation's performance through its people. At the moment, only Cameron have this accreditation. However, a programme is underway for the whole Group to complete in 2008.
ISO 9001 This BSI standard provides recognition that quality management systems
are in place in the group to ensure quality of products and services
delivery.
ISO 14001
This BSI standard (first published in 1996) specifies the actual
requirements for an environmental management system. It applies to
those environmental aspects which the group has control, or can
influence.
JIB
(Joint Industry Board) is the collective term for the partnership
between the ECA and Amicus as distinct from the administrative
organisation which was created to carry out their joint decisions.
NFB
(National Federation of Builders) is a construction industry’s trade
association, providing top level advice to our members on legal,
employment, taxation, health and safety, planning, environmental,
technical, training and government funding issues.
NIC EIC
(National Inspection Council for Electrical Installation Contracting)
is the independent consumer safety regulatory body for the electrical
contracting industry. It's sole purpose is to protect users of
electricity against unsafe and unsound electrical installations.
OFTEC The Oil Firing Technical Association representing the oil heating and cooking industry throughout the UK and Ireland.
RoSPA
(Royal Society for the Prevention of Accidents) provides information,
advice, resources and training, RoSPA is actively involved in the
promotion of safety and the prevention of accidents in all areas of
life - at work, in the home, and on the roads, in schools, at leisure
and on (or near) water.
SSAIB
(Security Systems and Alarms Inspection Board) Certification for
providers of electronic security systems, fire detection and alarm
systems and guarding security service.
TrustMark
is an award-winning scheme supported by Government, building industry and consumer protection groups to show a company has reliable, trustworthy tradesmen to make improvements and repairs inside and outside homes.
