The Group has set all its staff a challenge to reduce waste and boost its CSR and giving policy. The ‘ten quid’ challenge starts in June. Its aim is to reduce waste and travel costs by £10 per day per operative. Staff, team leaders and directors will look at how this works currently, to see where it can gain an extra £10 by planning journeys, utilising its telemetry and PDA’s to become more efficient. It will review its use of materials and van stock as part of this, to maximise material use before skipping items. It will also work with its waste carriers to identify where and how much waste is created at the groups sites and offices nationwide. Neil Williams, the Group’s Commercial Director, said “it seems to be such a lowly sum but £10 per employee daily adds up to a significant amount of money. All contractors are aware that this is one area especially in maintenance where we could all do better”. A proportion of any extra profit generated by this initiative will be donated to a charity chosen by staff. The Group will look to some of its clients to see where it can also use its CSR policy to use any money allocated as a result of the savings. Clients will play a big role in this as the Group requests that they help in redefining job scheduling and to look at the materials they specify and use.
