The Government has announced its boiler scrappage scheme, which encourages people to ditch their old boiler for a new one. The scheme aims to cut CO2 emmissons - domestic heating accounts for 14 per cent of the UK's CO2 emissions. New boilers have rated efficiencies of 90 per cent or more meaning that they use less fuel, resulting in lower CO2 emissions and running costs. Renewable heat technologies do not use fossil fuels, reducing CO2 emissions still further.
David Blount, Managing Director of Kinetics Facilities Services, says "that by upgrading a G-rated boiler to an A-rated one, a household heating bill can drop by about a third. On average, heating and hot water accounts for £756 a year bill. Installing a modern efficient boiler can save up to £235 a year on heating bills. Boiler installation is a key part of the Kinetics Group’s business, for which the Group has several hundred trained engineers.”
People who apply to the Government scheme will receive their voucher on or after January 18.
The Energy Saving Trust criteria for identifying a G-rated boiler eligible for the scheme if it meets any of the bullet point criteria below
• If the boiler has a permanent pilot light
• If the boiler is gas fired and over fifteen years old
• If the boiler is oil fired and over twenty five years old
